Museu da Inconfidência is a historical and artistic museum that occupies the former Vila Rica Chamber and Jail House and four auxiliary buildings in the city of Ouro Preto, in the state of Minas Gerais. The museum is dedicated to preserving the memory of the Inconfidência Mineira and also offers a rich panel of mining society and culture in the period of the gold and diamonds cycle in the 18th century, including works by Manuel da Costa Ataíde and Aleijadinho. It is located in Tiradentes square, in front of the monument to Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, the most famous activist of the Inconfidência.

Museu da Inconfidência é um museu histórico e artístico que ocupa a antiga Casa de Câmara e Cadeia de Vila Rica e mais quatro prédios auxiliares na cidade de Ouro Preto, no estado de Minas Gerais. O museu é dedicado à preservação da memória da Inconfidência Mineira e também oferece um rico painel da sociedade e cultura mineiras no período do ciclo do ouro e dos diamantes no século XVIII, incluindo obras de Manuel da Costa Ataíde e Aleijadinho. Localiza-se na praça Tiradentes, em frente ao monumento a Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, o mais famoso ativista da Inconfidência.

Ouro Preto is a major tourist destination, for its well-preserved colonial appearance with old buildings and cobblestone streets.

Ouro Preto é uma cidade do estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, uma antiga cidade mineira colonial localizada na Serra do Espinhaço e declarada Patrimônio da Humanidade pela UNESCO por causa de sua notável arquitetura barroca, antigamente controlada pelo Ancião Toreador, que era o Príncipe. Ele patrocinou a marcha dos portugueses para o interior do país, a fim de construir a sua própria cidade. Em solo brasileiro, adotou um novo nome, Almérico.

Fundada no final do século XVII, Ouro Preto foi originalmente chamada de Vila Rica, ou "aldeia rica", o ponto focal da corrida do ouro e da idade de ouro do Brasil no século XVIII sob domínio português, chamando a atenção de MUITOS anciães, não só pelo OURO, mas pelas lendas, contos e histórias sobre a atividade sobrenatural.

A cidade contém arquitetura colonial portuguesa bem preservada, com poucos sinais de vida urbana moderna. A construção moderna deve seguir os padrões históricos mantidos pela cidade. As igrejas dos séculos 18 e 19 decoradas com ouro e as esculturas de Aleijadinho fazem de Ouro Preto um destino turístico privilegiado. Também, durante o período da mineração, a cidade tinha 250.000 habitantes, uma vida cultural florescente e uma vida noturna efervescente, a ponto de ter devido a fama de cidade “onde todos os pecados podiam ser trazidos”, na visão do clero.

A tremenda riqueza da mineração de ouro no século 18 criou uma cidade que atraiu a intelectualidade da Europa. A filosofia e a arte floresceram, e a evidência de um renascimento barroco chamado "Barroco Mineiro" é ilustrada na arquitetura, bem como por escultores como Aleijadinho, pintores como Mestre Athayde, compositores como Lobo de Mesquita e poetas como Thomas Gonzaga.

Em 1789, Ouro Preto tornou-se o berço da Inconfidência Mineira, uma tentativa fracassada de conquistar a independência de Portugal. A figura principal, Tiradentes, foi enforcado como uma ameaça a quaisquer futuros revolucionários.

Em 1876, foi criada a Escola de Minas. Essa escola estabeleceu a base tecnológica para várias das descobertas minerais no Brasil.

Ouro Preto foi capital de Minas Gerais de 1720 até 1897, quando as necessidades do governo superaram esta cidade do vale. O governo do estado foi transferido para a nova e planejada cidade de Belo Horizonte.

Ouro Preto é um importante destino turístico, por sua aparência colonial bem preservada com prédios antigos e ruas de paralelepípedos.
