Love’s Brief Warmth

Forever locked by chains of ice
And shadowed walls unseen;
With tragic end foreknown, foreseen.
I would pursue gainst all advice-
'We've felt those pangs, not worth the price
Not for eyes of forest green,
Nor for laughter wicked, keen.'
I'll take my chance, and roll the dice.

Kindle flame til ice doth melt
And light is cast that shadows fade;
Then suffer from that strife foretold
Of open heart and brief love felt
Ere time and chance and loved decayed,
Lock heart away in chains so cold.
