Thomas Heard Poetry (The Robins Song)
The Robin's Song
Have you heard the robin sing,
The brilliant herald of the Spring!
Roses bloom in robin's wake
As heavy jackets, at last forsak'd!
Gone for now is winter snow.
Have you heard the robin's song,
That cry I've missed all winter long!
Gardens rich with fragrant bloom
Fairer aspect now we assume.
Forgotten now is winter snow.
Did you hear when robin's sang,
In summer gone, the cry that rang
Through the valleys of the night
Beneath the harvest moon so bright,
Soon come again is winter snow.
So long ago, when robin sung,
Now winter’s come and stilled her tongue
Through ice and sleet which doth conspire
Through winter storms, like bleakest choir.
Here again is winter snow.
