Tori is a friendly, bubbly scientist and academic whose areas of expertise range from robotics to programming to criminal law. She supposedly collects doctorates as a 'fun side-hobby', for no reason other than the delight of learning and expanding her horizons. Despite her many fields of study, however, at her core she is an Attorney at heart - a woman with a zealous dedication to law and order, to justice and structure. Her friendly and affable behavior can quickly vanish in the face of perceived injustice, giving way to a sharklike ruthlessness in her pursuit of the victory of Right over Wrong.

Tori Parris was born on June 23, 1987, in Rapid City South Dakota to a single mother, Helena Parris, who had recently moved to the United States from her home country of Greece. The product of an arranged marriage, Tori never met her birth father, but her mother soon remarried to Elliot Davis, a member of the Rapid City Police Department. Helena and Elliot had a second child, William, with whom Tori formed a very close bond despite only being half siblings. Tori was only 2 when William was born, so the difference in fathers barely registered to her in any practical sense.

Tori doesn't talk much about her life before her Embrace. What is known is that she was born in Rapid City South Dakota, her mother an immigrant from Greece. She never knew her biological father, only knowing that she was the product of an arranged marriage that went sour for unknown reasons, resulting in her mother leaving for the United States. Her mother eventually married a police officer with whom she had a son, Tori's half-brother William.

Tori enjoyed a very stable childhood. With Elliot's stability, Helena was able to quickly enroll in medical school and earned her residency before Tori was 10. With a doctor for a mother and a police officer for a father, Tori  and William (who went by Billy) didn't see much of their parents growing up, which only further deepened their bond with one another as they grew older, coming to rely on and protect one another through adolescence. Tori was very much a nerd growing up, focusing heavily on her school work and burying herself in study while Billy excelled at sports. Tori pushed herself hard when she got into high school, enrolling in advanced classes in an ambitious push towards high level scholarships.

It was at the end of Tori's freshman year in High School that tragedy struck the family when Elliot was killed when he tried to stop a convenience store robbery on his way home from work getting gas. The man who pulled the trigger was never caught despite a city-wide manhunt, and the event left the Parris home shattered - Tori especially so. Her grades slipped in her sophomore year in high school as she failed entirely to properly cope with the grief, which only added to the stress as she failed to achieve the high expectations she put on herself through her hopes for a good college. The stress eventually cracked her, and she fell in with a bad crowd as she looked for ways to escape. Drugs and alcohol, especially at her young age, quickly overwhelmed the young girl, leaving her in a dark place as she tried to keep her grades together as the latter half of high school loomed over her.

With barely passing grades at the end of her Junior year, she hit rock bottom over the following summer. Helena found out about the drug abuse, and threatened to have her sent to rehab if she didn't get her act together. Struggling with addiction, grief, shame, and self-loathing, Tori  only further spiraled without her mother's approval, leaving Billy the only member of her family left who she felt that she could rely on to support her. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't break the hold that her addictions held over her - and with no light at the end of the tunnel that she could see, she found herself standing on a bridge over a reservoir. Tears streaking down her face, she looked up at the stars, apologized to her stepfather, and jumped.

Little did she know that Billy had followed her, sensing something was wrong. Her brother saw her jump off the bridge, and leapt in after her.

Miraculously, both siblings survived - but not without cost. Billy shattered his knee in the fall, dashing his athletic pursuits entirely. Tori screamed at him on the shore, but Billy just held her. Told her he loved her. Told her they'd get through this, and that everything would be okay. His athletic career didn't matter to him if Tori couldn't be there to see it.

Her brother sacrificing his dreams to save her life proved to be the slap in the face and wake up call that Tori needed. She quietly spent the rest of the summer in a voluntary teen rehab program, and went back to her final year in High School with renewed drive and conviction to ensure that her brother's sacrifice was worth it. Through the rehab process she also finally received proper grief counseling to help her come to terms with the circumstances of her father's death, which further solidified her drive and helped Tori hone in on her vision for her own future.

With a fire in her gut, she started applying to law schools across the country, eventually landing a full scholarship with the University of Chicago's law program. She blew through law school like a wrecking ball, focusing her will, her focus, and her passions until she graduated summa cum laude. Before long she passed the bar, and established herself with a career as a criminal prosecution attorney. She established herself as a brilliant young legal mind - dedicated to the hard work behind the scenes, charismatic and passionate in the courtroom, and single-mindedly dedicated to justice and upholding law and order.

The following few years passed quickly and eventfully, with Tori throwing herself at case after case. She had many sleepless nights, and had an almost nonexistent personal life, but she didn't mind. Her work fueled her, and she gained a well-earned reputation for being an exceptional lawyer with a knack for swaying juries and applying just the right amount of pressure onto those testifying for the defense. She took a great deal of pride in putting criminals behind bars, her passion for criminal justice bordering on obsession.

It was through this mix of tireless passion and legal brilliance that Tori eventually found herself called to the Partners' office with the opportunity of a lifetime - to take the lead on a case that was of particular importance to some of the firm's key investors. She bit down hard at the opportunity, driving herself near to the point of madness as she tackled the case. Evidence was thin and the defense was well funded and well prepared, but she was able to pull through and landed a key conviction, putting several high-scale figures away for a very long time.

Behind the veil of night, her mortal life legally over, Tori was given some time to grieve the loss of her human life. Time to mourn never being able to say goodbye to her family. She knew how much Helena and Billy - especially poor Billy - would miss her. The family had been so torn apart by crime at every level between her and Elliot. She felt bad, for a time, for being the cause of such grief - but she knew that her family would be taken care of. Arrangements had been made to ensure that they and their families would want for nothing for the rest of their lives.
