<u>Not Tonight</u>

Troubled I lay aside my book
<br>And uneasy rise from rest.
<br>Secrets heavy in my chest.
<br>My spirit held on tender-hook
<br>I pace the room as firm hands shook
<br>As thoughts unclean began to nest
<br>To sing my fall, like man possessed,
<br>With discord song like filthy rooks.

I shut my ears against these calls
<br>Breath short and sharp until they fade
<br>They vanish with the breaking day.
<br>Only then, rebuild my walls
<br>And reweave composure frayed
<br>Not tonight, my self betray.
